In the previous century, I was the editor of my high school newspaper. I later received my J.D. with honors from Harvard. Then I was a trial lawyer for 22 years at a big law firm, where I also created training programs for lawyers.
In the current century, I formed one of the first legal process outsourcing companies in India, and I trained lawyers there to do the necessary research and writing. I went on to help students and professionals of all kinds enhance their writing skills to meet global standards. I wrote a book, Writing Skills for the Current Century, for the courses I teach at universities and firms.
I found that the best way to improve Writing Skills (along with Critical-Thinking Skills) is with one-on-one conversations in videoconferences, with both of us looking at a document you write. The focus is on a variety of elements in light of (a) the possible reactions of expected readers, and (b) what you want to accomplish. So far, everyone who has participated in these sessions has learned how to make their next documents better than their previous ones — more clear, concise, coherent, complete, and correct.
