When I was first asked to teach a writing-skills course for university students, I looked for a suitable textbook to use. There were many to choose from, but none used the approach I had in mind. So I created my own comprehensive compilation of content that is easy to understand, fun to read, and helpful to everyone. It includes many useful examples, and it has been well-received.
For example, here are comments from one of my students:
I initially expected it to be boring and sermonizing. But it turns out it was actually very, very fun to read. It is written in a style that the pages just flew by ― and it was very easy to understand. — Nitin Sharma

This is an excellent book that explains the intricacies of our often-confusing language. For anyone wanting to master written English, the author clearly explains the many conventions and strategies that good writers use to communicate. The book is filled with many appropriate, often humorous, examples to illustrate both WHAT to write and HOW to write in order to convey meaning to a reader. These examples make for a pleasurable read, something not always said about a reference book. Whether English is a first language or not, this book will help the reader become a better, more effective writer. Writing Skills for the Current Century is a valuable resource for anyone who loves, but is often confused by, the English written language.
